FACT CHECK: Video Of Elon Musk and Giorgia Meloni Kissing Is AI-Generated

December 11th, 2024

A video going viral on X claims to show Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Italian PM Giorgia Meloni kissing during a recent meeting in Paris.

Verdict: False

The video was made using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Fact Check:

Elon Musk has curried favor with President-Elect Donald Trump in the months leading up to Election Day, thanks to fervent support on his social media platform X and his contributions to his campaign. Musk, along with other dignitaries such as Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, attended the re-opening of the Norte Dame de Paris Cathedral on December 7th. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was also in attendance, and she had “pleasant” talks with the two.

Multiple posts on social media show Meloni and Musk kissing at this meeting. It shows Meloni in a purple blouse looking up at a suited Musk before he turns around and kisses her for a few seconds.

This did not happen, however. The video being shared was made with AI. Check Your Fact ran the viral video through AI detection website TrueMedia, which found substantial evidence of manipulation. (RELATED: No, Emmanuel Macron Was Not Arrested)

Musk and Giorgia Meloni have been friends for quite some time, and it has even been rumored that the two were a couple, although Musk’s mother Maye vehemently denies this. They have had official meetings in the past, however no proof that they ever kissed exists.
