FACT CHECK: Does Viral Video Depict Recent Scenes From Acre, Northern Israel?

A post made on X claims to depict footage of Acre, Northern Israel from Sept. 26, 2024.

 

Verdict: False
The video was originally posted in October of 2023 and depicts the city of Ashdod, not Acre.

Fact Check:

Iran carried out a large-scale missile attack on Israel on October 1, 2024. Prior to the October 1st attack, credible outlets reported on the tension between Iran and Israel.

A post made on X claims to depict footage of Acre, Northern Israel dated Sept. 26, 2024. The caption reads, “Iron dome not working today?” The caption from the linked video reads, “Scenes from Acre, northern Israel, after the earlier Hezbollah attacks. Local residents can be heard not so pleased with the situation.”

The claim is false. The video was originally uploaded to the internet in October of 2023 and depicts the Israeli city of Ashdod. (RELATED: Video Claims to Shows Iranian Aircraft Flying Over US Warships)

An India-based fact-checking account made a post on X debunking this claim. The caption reads, “ANALYSIS: Misleading FACT: A video that shows burning cars and black clouds of smoke following an attack has been shared, claiming to be a recent video of Hezbollah’s attack on Israel in Acre. The fact is that this is an old video from October 2023 (1/2).”
