FACT CHECK: Image Claims To Show Gun Toting Americans In Fast Food Establishment

September 30th, 2024
The image depicts a handgun, captured in a silhouette form against a plain, light background. The photo emphasizes the shape and the details of the weapon, with a strong focus on its outline and the various components like the trigger, barrel, and handle. This silhouette style enhances the dramatic effect, making the gun appear both mysterious and ominous. The simplicity of the composition, along with the monochromatic color scheme, centers the viewer's attention exclusively on the firearm. The use of lighting and shadow creates a contrast that further highlights the weapon, underscoring its presence as the sole subject in an otherwise minimalistic photograph. Lummi/Public/Sofía

Social media users are sharing an image of gun-toting Americans in a fast food establishment. One user wrote, “They shouldn’t even be allowed anywhere near a fast food joint.”

This image, however, is AI-generated. First, the text in the background of the image is incomprehensible and unreadable. There is no clear indicator of which fast food establishment this is, and the rifle barrels are also larger than expected.

Check Your Fact also used Hive Moderation, which detects images created by AI. Hive Moderation found that there is a 99.9 percent chance that the image was AI-generated or deepfake content, adding more evidence that this image is fake.
